Faith Believes

It’s easy to rationalize how the faith heroes mentioned in Hebrews 11, could use faith so powerfully. Yet, Bible study reveals the humans were flawed: Abraham lied; Sarah manipulated; and Ruth came from a pagan nation, Moses got angry and so on. I do believe God wants us to see those flaws for us not to think they are superhuman.
I like the Amplified Bible’s translation of Hebrews 11:1, which states, “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]”. To me, this means
—faith in God is believing He will do what He says
—my focus must be on what God says
—and my trust must be in God’s willingness and ability to do for me what He has said.
To know what He says, I must study His Word, the Bible. As I learn God’s Word and His ways, I gain understanding of who God is and how God operates. As I do, I learn He is love; He is the Giver of good gifts, and He has equipped and empowered me to be more than a conqueror in life.
The development of my faith is progressive. God meets me where I am. So if I want to experience God’s promises, I have the personal responsibility to mix my faith with God’s Word. Faith is the activator and connector to receipt of God’s promises. Take courage; start where you are, and don’t despise small beginnings.
Prayer and Confession
I believe that the word of God is true and that is word never fails. Therefore I walk always in the reality of this truth. Amen!
