The Contrast
By Kayode Emmanuel
Devotional Reading: “Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” – Acts 2:41 KJV
The nation of Israel, even though being the beloved of God always neglect him for the worship of other gods. The day Moses returned from Mt. Sinai, about 3,000 men died due to the worship of a golden calf made by them through Aaron (Exo. 32). Hence, the day the law was given could be said to be synonymous with the death of thousands of men.
Paul in the New Testament affirms in his writings that the law written on stones was glorious. Yet, it was a ministry of death. He also refers to the law as ministration of condemnation which cannot save anyone. It can reveal ones wrong but can’t enable it’s observer to be made right before God.
When the spirit of life came in the person of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, about 3,000 souls were saved which was in contrast to the Exodus experience. Life was given because they believed in Christ. Therefore, anyone who desires life needs the ministration of righteousness through Christ which exceeds in glory.
