Making Decisions For These Times

By Fatoki Ifeoluwa

Devotional Reading: “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” Proverbs 3:6 TLB

It is undeniable that the situation in contemporary times call for decision making. However, as believers, we must remember that God expects us to be led by the Spirit, rather than our impulses or the current trends of time. We must recall that even if God does not seem to be saying anything at the present time, He has made His counsel known in the Scripture, and that what God has captured for us in the Scripture is applicable to us even in the present.

In the book of Ruth, we are opened to a famine, which may mirror the tough times of the present moment. In response, Elimelech, the man of the home took his family to Moab, to find sustenance. While that looked reasonable, it was not instructed by God. Following his story, we discover that he soon died, with his two sons, leaving behind his wife and theirs.

His story reveal two things about the decisions that we make. First we see that our decisions have circumferences. In other words, the decisions that we make do not affect us alone, but it affects other people connected to us. Secondly, we learn that our decisions also have consequences. Any decision made outside God will lead to regret.

Beloved, we must watch out against opportunities that, though appearing harmless and profitable, could derail us from God’s ordained plan for us. We must not allow the pressure of the time, make us take decisions that are not informed by God. In the midst of the pressure, we must wait on God to guide us; and when He does, we must follow without hesitation.

Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You for Your Word. I declare that I make my decisions as led by You in Jesus Name, Amen.
