Reconciliation

Devotional Reading: God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Christ, and through Him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20

Just imagine a fight between two friends, between an apprentice and his boss, and between a product and its maker. As much as all are bad, the fight between a product and its maker is worse. What if I tell you that you were once at war with your Maker?

Yes, we were fighting with God, our Creator. We rebelled against God and His nature. The Bible makes it clear that we all like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way. We have sinned and fall short of His glory through the inherited sin of Adam. In other words, we were ALL God’s enemies.

Isn’t it funny for a creature to fight against his Creator? Obviously, there is no hope of winning. Instead, the creature will be silenced by death. But God’s mercy says no! God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to reconcile us back to Himself by His blood.

Good news! Enemies become friends! God is no longer angry with you because of the sacrifice of Jesus. The punishment that brought you peace with God was on Him. Now, when God looks at you, He is pleased with you because He sees Jesus.

You become the enemy of God because of the inherited sin of Adam. Reconciliation gives you the boldness to approach God as friends and this is made possible by the sacrifice of Christ. To reject this sacrifice is to remain an enemy of God. This is a battle you cannot win. Why not repent and believe the Gospel now?

Prayer and Confession
Today, I repent and turn to you, oh Lord. I cannot save myself, this I know; only you can!
Jesus, thank you for reconciling me to the Father.
