Show Mercy, Kindness and Truth

Devotional Reading: Proverbs 3:3 KJV Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the table of thine heart:

The verse above reminds us to embody God’s character – mercy, kindness, and truth. These qualities should guide our thoughts, words, and actions, transforming us into the image of Christ.

Think of mercy as showing compassion to those who don’t deserve it. Jesus demonstrated mercy when He forgave the woman caught in adultery. We can show mercy by forgiving others, just as God forgave us. For instance, when someone cuts you off in traffic, choose to let it go instead of getting angry. Extend mercy to that person, just as God extended mercy to you.

Kindness is more than a feeling; it’s a choice. David’s kindness to Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, illustrates this. Despite Mephibosheth’s limitations, David showed him kindness because of his promise to Jonathan. We can show kindness through small acts – a listening ear, a helping hand, or an encouraging word. Visit a sick friend, offer help to an helpless person, or surprise a neighbor with a kind gesture.

Truth is the foundation of our faith. Jesus is the Truth, and His Word is truth. We must bind truth around our neck, reminding ourselves of God’s promises and principles. This will guide our decisions and actions. When faced with uncertainty, open your Bible and seek God’s truth. Let Scripture shape your thoughts and actions.

Prayer and Confession
Dear Heavenly Father, help me embody Your character – mercy, kindness, and truth. Bind these qualities securely around my neck and write them on my heart. May Your love and wisdom guide me. Amen.
