Following God’s Plan 1

In his letter to the Christians in Corinth, Apostle Paul made a profound statement about God’s call on our lives. He said God is faithful and has called us into fellowship with his son, Jesus Christ our Lord. God’s call is on every person living on the earth’s surface, and this call is a call to fellowship with Jesus Christ. The calling of God is synonymous with his plan for a person’s life.

The first call of God for your life is to fellowship with himself. The word fellowship is translated from a Greek word whose root is “koinonos,” which means fellowship, partnership, or intercourse. It depicts an intimate knowledge of one another shared by both partners. The heart of God’s plan for you is to know him intimately.

Many times the part of God’s plan that we often pursue relates to doing something for God. However, that’s not the plan of God. Mark recorded the account of our Lord Jesus calling those who would be his disciples in Mark 3:13-15, he said “He (Jesus) also appointed 12 — He also named them apostles — to be with Him, to send them out to preach.” Did you see that?

The intention was for them to be with him, know him, and bond with him before sending them out to do ministry work. The former comes before the latter. That has not changed with God to this day. Every work of ministry that a minister renders to people is to bring them to know God intimately. Can you see that? God has called you into fellowship with himself. He wants to love you. He created you for companionship. It is in the place of building strong bonds with God that ministry work to people begins to flow out.

How much time are you spending in close, quality fellowship with your father daily? Are you so preoccupied with what you will do for him at the expense of building an intimate relationship? Come to think of it; you cannot minister to people effectively the father that you don’t know personally. Therefore, repent. Put first things first in your quest to follow God’s plan for your life.

I am in God’s plan for my life. I will seek to pursue more diligently moments of quality fellowship with the Lord.
