Who is Really in Charge?

Devotional Reading:“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7

Many times, without even noticing, we hand over the control of our lives to our emotions. Think about it: how many times have you said, “I don’t feel like praying today,” or “I’m not in the mood to forgive”? Those statements show who is really in charge at that moment, your feelings, not your faith. Feelings were never designed to be the driver of your life. They are more like passengers who can talk and shout but should never be allowed to grab the steering wheel. If you allow them to, you’ll quickly realize they can’t see the road clearly.

Emotions are unstable by nature. One small comment from someone and suddenly your whole day is ruined. One unexpected alert in your bank account and you’re instantly the happiest person alive. That’s how unreliable feelings are. But God’s Word is stable. It doesn’t shift like shifting shadow. It stands forever. Imagine if your faith was based on something as unstable as the shadow, you’d be confused. That’s why Scripture says faith comes by hearing the Word, not by checking how you feel.

Jesus, the Son of God, chose the Word over feelings, then what excuse do we have? You don’t overcome fear, anger, or sadness by pretending they don’t exist; you overcome them by letting God’s Word speak louder. Your mood may whisper, “You’re finished,” but faith shouts back, “God has the final say!”

So, the real question is: who is in charge of your life; your emotions or God’s Word? If moods are dictating your steps, you’ll always stumble. But if faith in God’s promises is leading you, you’ll walk with stability even when everything around you feels shaky. Faith isn’t about denying how you feel; it’s about refusing to let those feelings make the final decision.

Prayer and Confession
Father, I refuse to let my moods and emotions control me. I walk by faith in Your Word, and I declare that my life is led by truth, not feelings. Amen!
