External Noise Vs. Internal Voice

Devotional Reading: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” – John 10:27

Life is full of noise. From the moment you wake up, there’s something demanding your attention; WhatsApp notifications, social media trends, news headlines, or even unsolicited advice from people around you. All this external noise can drown out the still, gentle voice of God if you’re not careful. The danger is that noise is often louder, more urgent, and more distracting than the quiet truth of God’s Word. Many believers follow the loudest voice instead of the truest one.

Elijah’s story in 1 Kings 19 illustrates this perfectly. He looked for God in the earthquake, the wind, and the fire, all dramatic, noisy events. But God wasn’t in any of them. Instead, He spoke in a still, small voice. That is how God often works…quietly, steadily, and clearly, while the world shouts, intimidates, and distracts. If Elijah had focused only on the noise, he would have missed the direction God was giving him. The same applies to us today.

Noise doesn’t only come from outside; sometimes it comes from inside too. Your emotions can be noisy… fear shouting, “It’s over,” doubt screaming, “You can’t,” and insecurity whispering, “You’re not enough.” The way to silence this internal noise is by feeding on the Word of God until His voice becomes louder in your spirit than anything else. When you know the Shepherd’s voice, you won’t be deceived by the impostors.

Faith is not about ignoring noise; it is about recognizing the right voice to follow. The more you train your heart to listen to God’s Word, the easier it becomes to filter out the distractions. The world will always make noise, but the voice of God will always lead you to peace, clarity, and victory.

Prayer and Confession
Father, I tune my ears to Your voice above the noise of the world and my emotions. I declare that I know Your voice, I hear it, and I follow it faithfully. Amen!
