God Fulfills Prophecy Through People, Not Angels
Devotional Reading: And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. Luke 1:30-31 KJV
One striking thing about the Christmas story is that God did not send an angel to give birth to Jesus. He sent an angel to give a message, but He trusted the assignment to a human. This is important because God has always chosen to work through people, even when angels are available. Mary was not supernatural, but she was surrendered. God’s plan did not depend on her strength, experience, or understanding. It depended on her willingness. This shows us that divine fulfillment often flows through human cooperation.
Prophecy does not fulfill itself automatically. God speaks, but people must respond. Mary could have argued, delayed, or declined. Joseph could have walked away. The shepherds could have ignored the announcement. Yet each person played their role. Christmas reveals that God’s sovereignty does not cancel human responsibility. God is faithful to His word, but He still invites people to participate in its fulfillment.
This is both encouraging and challenging. Encouraging because God can use ordinary people with ordinary lives. Challenging because obedience matters more than talent. God may be looking for someone to carry His purpose into a situation, a family, a workplace, or a generation. The question is not whether God has a plan, but whether we are willing to say yes when that plan interrupts our routine.
Prayer and Confession
Lord, thank You for trusting people with Your divine plans. I surrender my will to You. I confess that I am willing and available to partner with You in fulfilling Your purpose, even when it stretches me beyond my comfort zone. Amen!
