Don’t Give Up On Those Prayers
Devotional Reading: and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. Revelation 8:4 ESV
As you come into the new year, I want to encourage you not to give up on your prayers. The prayer you gave up on a long time ago is still active and the Lord has heard it.
I was reminded of this truth when reading about the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth in the Bible (Luke 1). They were both righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments, and yet they had no children because Elizabeth was unable to conceive, and they were both very old.
But while Zechariah was going about his daily duties, an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said ‘… Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son…’ (Luke 1:13 NIV).
Can you imagine how many prayers Zechariah and Elizabeth had offered to God, individually and as a couple? They were sincere in their love for God and yet it seemed like their prayers were forgotten. But their prayers had been heard and had not evaporated into the air! And in God’s own timing, Zechariah was receiving an answer to that prayer.
How encouraging that is for us today! Our prayers don’t go away! God hears them, and He treasures them. In every work of God there is great purpose, perfect timing, and a story being written.
Your prayer has been heard.
Prayer and Confession
My faith is strong – never to give up on the promises of God. My prayer has tremendous power available and produces results.
