God’s Plan Vs Human Alternative(s) 2
Devotional Reading: “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” Genesis 3:7 & 21
Genesis, the book of beginning revealed to us lots of things that needs careful study. One of such is shedding of blood. Over time we’ve believed that the first blood shed was done by Cain, that’s not an absolute truth. From our opening passage, after the fall of man and their attempt to cover their nakedness with fig leaves, God saw the need to provide for them a better and lasting option for the time being, He killed an animal so as to get a coat for them; that was the first blood shed (which could be said to be an allegory for the slain lamb).
Limitations of man’s solution against God’s way.
I. Apron was made :- Aprons mostly are not designed to cover the entire body, rather it covers a specific part.
II. Apron of fig tree :- You’ll agree with me that fig leaves having been detached from the branches would not last for too long before it needs replacement.
God’s Provision
Coat of skin; an outer garment usually of varying length and always bigger than the underlying attire.
The durability of the coat of skin cannot be compared to the fig apron.
Implication.
Yes, you might have failed God in one way or the other. Yet, he promised he’ll be merciful to your unrighteousness and your sins and iniquities will He not remember no more. You only need to take that bold step of faith, acknowledge your sin and desist from trying to fix things in your own way, coverings of fig still opens you to shame and disgrace but covering received from God shuts the door against shame and reproach.
Prayer and Confession
I am the son of the Almighty, I forsake my sins and iniquities, I receive His abounding grace to cleanse me from all unrighteousness and I stand holy in His presence in Jesus name. Amen
