Dead to Sin; Alive to God

Written by Tosin Lawal

Romans 6:12

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

In our text today, the Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul tells us to reckon ourselves indeed dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. This is the word of God to us.  A careful reading of our text from verse 1 reveals certain realities to us which are meant to establish us further in the truth of the gospel.

The death of Jesus Christ was not for himself but for us. We were the sinners that needed to die eternally and pay for our sins, but because of mercy He died in our stead. The death He died to sin was once for all, and  God raised him from the dead to die no more. Jesus is alive today, and alive to God forever.

You see, what God did for us through Jesus Christ is what is being  called substitutionary work. The implication is that His death is our death and likewise His resurrection from the dead is our resurrection from the dead. This is the simple reason why God’s word says in our text today that we should reckon ourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God.

Beloved, the resurrection of Jesus is our proof and surety that we are forever dead to sin and alive to God. It is our evidence that sin and death no longer has any power of us. It is our guarantee that we are saved forever.
His resurrection is our confidence, Hallelujah. This is worth meditating on all through today.
Gory to Jesus!

CONFESSION

The resurrection of Jesus is my proof that I am forever dead to sin and alive to God. Hallelujah!!
