True Worship
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
“Worship” is apparently the most common word in the Christian community, but we have little understanding of what that word implies when used. We must understand that Christian worship is more than the slow music song we sing or listen to or the atmosphere of silence where we are overwhelmed with the melody that is produced from the musical instrument. Biblical worship is to be a daily expression of who we are, in other words it is first a BEING.
Biblical form of worship carries this idea of reverence and honour. That is it is turning our heart which is the seat of affection and our whole being towards God. Jesus describe the Pharisees to be “people who honours Him with their lips, but their HEART is far from me”… He stated that their worship is vain. In other words, Jesus is stating categorically that worship is not a “religious ritual.” So you can do as many good deeds as you want and attend as many Church services lifting up your hands, and singing songs of praise to Him without really worshipping
Jesus says, “they that will worship God, must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.” The implication of this is that true worship is a response of the heart to the right understanding of God’s nature – who is Spirit and Truth. It is the response to His worth in the singleness, sincerity, and integrity of our hearts. It is valuing His nature and making Him the subject and focus of what we do —
It is by understanding this that the external expression of our worship can make sense (the fruit of our lips, and the demonstrable acts of love on serving others).
