Compelled by Love

2 Corinthians 5:14 AMP

For the love of Christ controls and compels us, because we have concluded this, that One died for all, therefore all died;

Only someone who is crazy in love would leave 99 sheep alone to go find the one that got lost. It is crazy because what if something happens to the remaining 99 before he gets back. What if they were stolen or the bears come to tear them apart? Obviously, that kind of love is crazy and reckless.

This is what God did, He left all of his glory for the sake of humanity. It is a crazy kind of love we receive from God: That He sent His only Son to die for us, so that all of us could be saved and live in heaven, with Him, forever. He chose to take our place so we can have his place. His love greatly compels us to do crazy things too.

His amazing love compels us to act in a good, positive, legal, life-giving way, in a way that for some people might seem crazy. We do things like reading a 2000-year-old book, or “talking to the ceiling” when we pray. The love of God causes us to have faith that things will get better even when there seems to be no way out of a bad situation. It causes us to have faith in God and all of His promises, and to have faith that the blood of Jesus makes us clean as snow and that we have eternal life. It might seem crazy to some, but this what God’s love compels us to be.

As we acknowledge that the love of God has infiltrated our lives, our actions will not seem logical to others.  That love compels us into doing things that are no longer about us, but about others.

CONFESSION

Thank you, Jesus, for your amazing love to me,

I rejoice in this reality.
