Don’t be Misled

1 Corinthians 15:33

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Apostle Paul in his letter to the Christians in Corinth while trying to correct their wrong notions and believe about the resurrection of dead, told the Christians at Corinth that bad company corrupts good character. He told them not to be misled because they were already being persuaded by wrong influence due to the company they were keeping.

The issue was that, contrary to the true teaching of the gospel as pertaining to the resurrection from the dead, some of the Christians in Corinth were living as though there is no resurrection from the dead. This was because they were already believing the lie that there is no resurrection from the dead.

The truth of the gospel revealed clearly that there is resurrection of the dead, that is to mean that physical death is not the end of a believer in Christ. God’s word revealed to us that upon the second coming of Jesus Christ, all believers( both the living and the ones that have died on earth) will be caught up with the Lord Jesus to be with Him and reign forever. This is what is commonly known as rapture.

The company some of the Christians in Corinth were keeping didn’t believe in this reality and the Christians were gradually being persuaded to join them in this ungodly thinking. But Apostle Paul came to there rescue, reassuring them of our realities in Christ. He made it clear in 1 Corinthians 15:19 ERV that if our hope in Christ is only for this life here on earth, then people should feel more sorry for us than for anyone else. Glory to Jesus, our hope in Christ is not limited to this life alone.

God’s word in 1 Corinthians 15:20 CEV says Christ has been raised to life! And he makes us certain that others (believers) will also be raised to life. Hallelujah!

Beloved, bad company indeed corrupt good character. Don’t be unwise, mind the company you keep. The company you keep will always have a strong influence on your life which will in turn define how you will keep living your daily life. Choose your association wisely.
