Growing in the Grace of Giving
2 Corinthians 8:7 NIV
But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
As you excel in the grace of giving, God wants you to give generously to your local church and towards the propagation of the gospel generally. Your local church is the primary means through which God blesses and establishes you in the faith. It is honor to give regularly to her. The resources you give could either be in cash or kinds. These resources are further used for the furtherance of the gospel and for running the ministry in terms of welfare and every other important aspect of the church. If you don’t give to your church who will?
However, you would have the privilege of receiving ministry from other ministries outside your church. It is honor that you bless such ministries with your resources too. We do this because God’s word said in 1 Timothy 5:17 NIV that “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.”
Beloved, we have a call to excel in the grace of giving as Christians. You have a choice to either respond to the call or not. But it is more honourable that you do.
