Growing in the Grace of Giving
2 Corinthians 8:7 NIV
But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
Apostle Paul commended the Christians in Macedonia for their act of giving borne out of sheer generosity. He referred to this as the grace of giving. The Macedonian Christians proved against all odds that true giving is not dependent on whether you have much or not. Apostle Paul testified of them that they gave as much as they were able and beyond their abilities even in the midst of a very severe trial, and extreme poverty, their overflowing joy welled up in rich generosity. Can you imagine that?
The Macedonian Christians indeed demonstrated the nature of God in them, for generosity is of God. Hence he appealed to the Christians in Corinth to also excel in the grace of giving. Excelling in the grace of giving means being generous in giving. A generous man doesn’t give in return for something, rather his giving is borne of his generosity for generosity gives whether the recipient deserves it or not.
Beloved, the call to excel in the grace of giving is for every christians which includes you. It’s not enough to excel in faith, speech or knowledge. See to it that you excel also in the grace of giving. You don’t have to wait until you have all the resources of this earth before you give. If you do, you will never give. But just like the Macedonian Christians, you can also excel in the grace of giving by allowing the generosity of God in you to reign. You don’t even need a special leading before giving. Just allow love motivate you to giving.
Amen.
CONFESSION
I am as my father,
I walk in generosity,
I excel in the grace of giving, not allowing circumstances come inbetween my way of giving
