Perfect Substitute 1

Devotional Reading: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:24 KJV

In many of Jesus’ parables, Jesus Christ uses the expression, “the kingdom of heaven,” to designate the work of divine grace upon the hearts of men which was instituted immediately after the fall of man, when a plan was devised for the redemption of the guilty race.

The plan for our redemption was not an afterthought, a plan formulated after the fall of Adam. It was a revelation of “the mystery which hath been kept in silence through times eternal” (Romans 16:25). It was an unfolding of the principles that from eternal ages have been the foundation of God’s throne…. God did not ordain that sin should exist, but He foresaw its existence, and made provision to meet the terrible emergency.

As soon as there was sin, there was a Saviour. Christ knew that He would have to suffer, yet He became man’s substitute. As soon as Adam sinned, the Son of God presented Himself as surety for the human race. Amazing isn’t it?

What love! What amazing condescension! The King of glory proposes to humble Himself to fallen humanity! He would place His feet in Adam’s steps. He would take man’s fallen nature, and engage to cope with the strong foe (Satan) who triumphed over Adam. Of course He did, He overcame and handed the victory to us. He redeemed us from Satan’s kingdom and brought us into His own kingdom. Glory to God!

Thank you Jesus for your saving grace. I am redeemed, I am a victor and I live in this reality everyday. Amen!
