God is not Man 3

Devotional Reading: “The LORD also said, “Sodom and Gomorrah have many complaints against them, and their sin is very serious. I must go down and see whether these complaints are true. If not, I will know it.”” (Genesis 18:20-21 GW)

The ease and speed with which men make comments on any and every matter must be surprising to God. I say so, because God who sees everything does not make comments about everything. But man who knows only a very minute fragment of things, and even depends on the news to know a little more, does more talking. If I were God, I’d find it surprising, I suppose you will, too.

From our anchor text, we discover how God handled the case of Sodom and Gomorrah. This is God, about to execute judgement, yet ensuring to know all the details, as it were. Of course when He got to Sodom, and He saw for Himself, He went to action.

We find so much contemplations and discussion in the Book of Job, yet God says nothing until about the end of it all. In a world that sets us up to keep talking about everything, an answer to the first question of God to Job, can help us.

“Why do you talk so much when you know so little? – Job 38:2 CEV.

If you find yourself always itching to make comments or pass judgements on the things you know so little about, this is a call to examine yourself.

Prayer and Confession
Father, I receive grace to bridle my tongue, and to discipline myself on passing comments on issues.
