On Matters of Ministry

Devotional Reading: But select from among you, brethren, seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. (Act 6:3 NAS)

There is so much misconception in the present day on the definition, scope and concept of ministry. It is believed that ministry is for some, or that it has to be some mega task or oversight with great spiritual authority. Whereas in the mind of God, and as revealed in Scripture, ministry is service.

In Acts 6, we find an interesting episode in the life of the early Church. There was an ensuing crisis and the way to address it was to appoint people who will coordinate the rationing of food. One may be tempted to ask if that is any form of ministry, but then, it is! The qualification of the men who would be chosen is not so much different from what obtains to lead a ministry in contemporary days.

So imagine that with all the anointing, wisdom and Spiritual knowledge of people like Stephen, their ministry is to coordinate the sharing of food. Our tasks may be different, but obedience and faithful service is what matters to God. So do not count whatever acts of service you are privileged to do as little, do it faithfully and diligently.

Father, I refuse to view my acts of service to You any less than a ministry, I declare that I am faithful and diligent in Jesus name, Amen.
