Pray For Us

Devotional Reading: Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; (2 Thessalonians 3:1 NAS)

One of the truths that we must come to terms with is that in life, no man has it all in himself. God never created man to be independent. However, while man was created to depend on God solely, God also made provisions for occasions where men require the assistance of other men.

This is important because there are two extremes to this truth. The first extreme claim that they only need God, and require nothing from men, while the other plan their ways round their connections with men and neglect God. In spite of this, the truth remains that none of these extremes is correct. We need God and man, and it must be prioritized in that order. However, while many often acknowledge their need for God, they discountenance men.

In our anchor text, we see the Apostle Paul requesting prayer from God’s people at Thessalonica. Paul was the super apostle, the brethren were members of the Church he had planted; yet Paul was humble enough to ask them pray for him. Refusal to ask either God in prayer, or men points to self-sufficiency and pride.

Many have suffered loss and other unpleasant situations because they refused to ask when necessary. Beloved, please ask when you need to. And when you do, don’t discountenance any individual.

Father, I repent for my refusal to ask when necessary and I refuse to discountenance any individual in Jesus name, Amen.
