Jesus’ Prayer; Protection Ascertained

By Kayode Emmanuel

Devotional Reading: “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” John 17:11b & 15 NIV

Imagine a hardened criminal who has been found guilty of various crimes and has been sentenced to life in prison. You wouldn’t expect such a person to be kept in a place that has little or no secured area, such a person might be transferred to a maximum prison where there cannot be any form of breakout because of inefficient facilities.

You were made to understand yesterday that your theology is revealed in your words, songs and prayers. Listen to what Jesus’ prayer reveals to us as believers; he prays we will be protected, not just by anything or anyone, but by the greatest force known in the universe, in heaven and under the earth; the name Jesus.

Reading through scriptures, there’s no place a believer is exempted from life’s troubles or challenges, but there are countless promises of His ever abiding presence with us. Hence, whatever you are passing through, you are protected and secured by His name, nothing whatsoever that is fashioned against you will prosper as a believer if you rely on God’s name and power (Isaiah 43:2-5, Matt. 28:20 John 16:33).

What then are you expected to do as a believer to make the prayer of Christ a reality in your life? Rest in Christ finished work, knowing He’s got you covered. Never leave the name of the Lord for any other man made protection, remember; the name of the Lord is a strong tower, when you enter and abide in Him, you’ll be saved.

Prayer and Confession
Christ is my fortress and shield, in Him I have protection against all the wiles and fiery darts of the enemy. Hallelujah.
