Seeking Eternal Life

By Kayode Emmanuel

Devotional Reading: “Jesus replied, “The truth of the matter is that you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you believe in me.” John 6:26 TLB

Whenever Jesus speaks, he doesn’t speak based on speculation but rather as one with authority and that’s premised on the truth that he is God the all-knowing and all powerful. Beginning from verse 2 of today’s text, we saw multitudes following Jesus and the reason for that was stated; because they saw him perform miracles.

It was in this same portion of the scripture that we saw Jesus multiplied five loaves of bread and two small fishes to feed a minimum of five thousand souls. This miracle made many to seek for Christ the following day. But Jesus did not mistake their seeking for him to be one borne out of love or sincere desire for him. He knew it was because of the meat he fed them with earlier and they desired more.

As you know Nigeria has the largest Christian population of any country in Africa, with more than 80 million persons in Nigeria belonging to the church with various denominations. We may not be able to tell truly those who are Christians beyond just the statistics of religion, but the degree of “light and dark” in the country have a lot to say about that.

The question coming to you today by God’s spirit is; why are you seeking Him (Jesus’ Christ)? Is it because you love him, or that you desire a thing from him? Are you seeking him for the things in his hand or to be a man after his heart? The answer to the question have a lot to say about how committed you’ll be to God, with or without those things you seek. If it is just so He could meet your physical need, you are laboring for that which will perish. Labor for the meat which endures unto eternal life; believe on Jesus Christ.

Prayer and Confession
I’ve got eternal life in me, the life of God that supplants the human life. I am one with God. Glory.
