Rest in The Lord
By Kayode Emmanuel
Devotional Reading: “Rest in the Lord; wait patiently for him to act. Don’t be envious of evil men who prosper.” Psalms 37:7 TLB
We live in a world where people find it difficult to be still and that makes many to be in motion but without progress. Many do a lot without the leading of God’s spirit and ended up having little or no result to show for their labour.
To rest in the Lord is to wait in silent patience or confidence for his intervention; or, in other words, leaving the whole matter with Him without being anxious as to the result. One vital key needed in resting in the Lord is to believe. Hebrews 4 reveals to us how many of the people of old missed God’s rest only because they do not believe. Hence, for you to enjoy God’s rest, there’s a need to have faith in Christ finished work, believing that only in Him can you find rest and seize from wanting to please God by human activities.
To rest in the Lord does not equal being in a state of idleness but that all you do is a reflection on the completed work of God in Christ and putting your faith in Him, that all things will work out for your good. Even, when He seems to delay; or it appears that he does not intervene; do not be anxious and troubled, only cast all your needs on Him with the assurance that He cares for you.
Prayer and Confession
I rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him to act. I trust in Him, therefore I will not be discouraged.
