Merciful and Gracious

By Ife Fatoki

Devotional Reading: And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed,… (Exodus 34:5-7a KJV)

One of the things that prospered the relationship of Moses with God, and his ministry before men was the right knowledge of God. In His self-disclosure to Moses, God declared Himself as Lord, merciful, gracious, good and just. How comforting to know that this is what God says about Himself. And we know this is true because God cannot lie.

This is also important because, what people reveal about themselves is an indication of the way they want people to relate with them. So for instance, when a teacher comes to class for the first thing and says “I am a no-nonsense person”, that is likely to set a tense tone for the class subsequently.
However, God says He is merciful and gracious, forgiving and good. It was Max Lucado who said ‘If God were only mighty, we would salute Him; but since He is merciful and mighty, we can approach Him’.

Saturate your heart with this declaration that God made about Himself, because that is who He is. If you have held contrary beliefs about God, don’t you think you need to edit your knowledge of God this morning?

Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You for this revelation about Yourself. I walk in the reality of Your mercy, graciousness and goodness.
