Who Do You Think You Are?

Devotional Reading: “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight…” Ephesians 1:4

Identity is not what you do, it’s who you are. And who you are in Christ was decided long before you ever learned how to sin or suck your thumb. God chose you “in Him” even before you got your act together. Many of us live like God is evaluating our lives on a performance scoreboard, when really, He’s trying to get us to realize the game is already won—in Christ!

A lot of believers struggle because they’re still identifying with their past instead of their position. So you failed last week? That’s not who you are. You had a moment of doubt? That doesn’t cancel your spiritual identity card. The journey begins when we stop seeing ourselves through the eyes of our faults and start seeing ourselves through the finished work of Christ.

You have to start introducing yourself to yourself. That sounds weird, but it’s powerful. Say things like, “Hi, I’m [insert name], a new creation, holy and beloved. I am seated with Christ, blessed with every spiritual blessing.” Speak what the Word speaks about you until your mind catches up with your spirit.

You’ll be tempted to fall back into old thought loops like “I’m not good enough,” or “I’ve messed up too much.” But those thoughts are squatters in a temple that now belongs to God. Evict them. Your identity is not rented—it’s blood-bought and permanently yours.

Prayer and Confession
Lord Jesus, thank You for choosing me long before I ever said yes to You. Help me embrace who I am in You, not based on how I feel or what I’ve done, but on what You’ve done for me. Let the truth of Your Word echo louder than my past. Amen.
