Persistence: Knock Like You Know Someone’s Inside

Devotional Reading: “Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” – Luke 18:1

Ever been at someone’s door and you’re sure they’re inside, but they’re taking too long to open? You keep knocking, maybe throw in a “Hello?” or two. That’s how Jesus wants us to approach prayer. He literally said, “Don’t give up!” Prayer isn’t one-and-done; sometimes it’s keep-knocking-till-you-get-an-answer.

That persistent widow in Luke 18? She kept bugging the judge until she wore him out. And Jesus said, “See that? Be like her!” God isn’t saying He’s annoyed by your prayers—He’s saying He honours persistence. It proves you’re serious, not just casually wishing.

Daniel is another legend here. He prayed and fasted for 21 days before the angel arrived with his answer (Daniel 10). And guess what? The angel said the answer was sent the very first day, but spiritual warfare delayed it. Imagine if Daniel had quit on Day 7?

So when you pray, don’t get tired just because it’s taking time. Keep showing up. Keep believing. Keep knocking. Some answers are instant; others are processed, not microwaved. And sometimes, while you’re praying, God is preparing you to handle the blessing.
