Consecration Without Drama
Devotional Reading: “But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:17–18
Some people think being consecrated means you have to look miserable, sound mysterious, and act like one who just returned from a 40-day wilderness trip. Jesus actually warned against that kind of spiritual acting. He said, “When you fast, wash your face.” In other words, don’t turn your devotion into a drama. God is not impressed by how religious you look; He’s moved by how surrendered your heart is. Consecration is supposed to be quiet, sincere, and joyful…not gloomy and intimidating.
Real consecration happens in the privacy of your heart. It’s when you say “no” to what everyone is saying “yes” to, simply because you love God more than your desires. It’s when you pray in your room without announcing it, or you give quietly without posting it online. Consecration without drama is what Joseph practiced when he refused Potiphar’s wife, not because there was a crowd, but because his heart was set apart for God. The true measure of consecration is not how spiritual you look in public, but how obedient you are in private.
Prayer and Confession
Lord, help me to serve You quietly but deeply. Deliver me from spiritual performance and help me walk with You in sincerity and truth, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
