Fear Disguised as Wisdom

Key Text: “Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” Ecclesiastes 11:4 NLT

Fear is clever. It rarely announces itself loudly. Most times, it wears a suit and calls itself wisdom. It sounds reasonable, cautious, and well thought out. Solomon paints a picture of a farmer who looks very responsible. He is checking the sky, studying the wind, and analyzing the clouds. The only problem is that nothing is being planted. The field looks neat, but it is empty.

Many believers fall into this same trap. They say things like, “Let me think about it some more,” or “I am just being careful,” or “Let me wait and see how things go.” Before they realize it, months have passed and nothing has moved. Faith does not grow in endless analysis. At some point, thinking must give way to doing. Otherwise, wisdom becomes an excuse for delay.

For instance, some people will not start a project because they are still researching. Others will not apply for an opportunity because they want to be one hundred percent sure they will succeed. Meanwhile, someone else with less preparation but more courage steps in and moves forward. Spiritually, God is not impressed by how much we analyze the clouds. He responds to those who trust Him enough to plant the seed. If we wait until fear stops talking, we will be waiting a very long time.

Prayer and Confession
Father, I ask You to expose fear wherever it is pretending to be wisdom in my life. I receive clarity to know when You have already spoken. I declare that I move forward with faith, confidence, and obedience, in Jesus name. Amen.

Where in my life am I overthinking when God is actually calling me to act?
