When People Doubt What God Is Doing in You
Key Text: “The other disciples therefore said to him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ So he said to them, ‘Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.'” John 20:25 (NKJV)
If you walk with God long enough, you will certainly meet a Thomas. These are people who cannot believe what God is doing in your life until they have enough evidence to satisfy their minds. They will question your testimony, doubt your calling, criticize your progress, or wait for you to fail before they become convinced. Their skepticism can be discouraging, especially when you know what God has spoken to you. Yet Jesus teaches us an important principle. You do not have to win every argument to prove God’s work in your life. Time has a way of preaching sermons that words never can.
Notice that Jesus never asked the other disciples to argue with Thomas. He simply continued His assignment until the right moment came for Thomas to see the evidence himself. Many believers waste precious energy trying to convince people who have already decided to doubt them. They explain every decision, defend every blessing, and seek everyone’s approval. That is exhausting. Your responsibility is to obey God faithfully, not to manage people’s opinions. When God opens a door, you do not need to stand outside explaining to everyone how the key works. Simply walk through it.
There is another life lesson here. Never become bitter because someone doubted you. Sometimes today’s Thomas becomes tomorrow’s strongest supporter after seeing what God has done. If Jesus had rejected Thomas because of his doubts, one of His disciples would have been lost. Give people room to grow, but do not allow their unbelief to shrink your faith. Keep serving, keep praying, and keep becoming who God has called you to be. Eventually, your transformed life will answer questions that your mouth never could.
Prayer and Confession
Father, deliver me from the fear of people’s opinions. Help me to remain faithful to Your calling even when others misunderstand or doubt what You are doing in my life. Give me the grace to respond to skepticism with humility, patience, and unwavering faith. My confidence is in Your approval, not in human applause. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
