John: Cherish the Johns God Has Placed in Your Life
Key Text: “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’ And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.” John 19:26-27 (NKJV)
While many people spend their lives worrying about the Judases, they often overlook the Johns. John represents those rare people whom God places in your life to strengthen, encourage, and faithfully walk with you through every season. He was present at the cross when many others had disappeared. Jesus trusted him with one of His greatest earthly responsibilities, the care of His mother. That teaches us a profound principle. Trust is not built by loud declarations but by consistent faithfulness. The people who deserve greater access to your life are not always the loudest supporters but the most dependable companions.
One of the greatest mistakes believers make is giving more attention to difficult people than to faithful people. Some spend years discussing who betrayed them while forgetting to appreciate those who never left them. We often water the weeds while ignoring the flowers. Learn to celebrate your Johns. Encourage them, pray for them, invest in them, and never take their loyalty for granted. Faithful relationships are among God’s greatest earthly gifts, yet they are often appreciated only after they have been neglected or lost.
There is another challenge hidden in John’s life. Do not spend all your time looking for a John. Become one. Every believer should strive to be the person others can trust in seasons of joy and seasons of pain. Be present when people are celebrating and when they are suffering. Anyone can attend a wedding because there is food, music, and photographs. It takes a John to remain at the foot of the cross when there is nothing to gain except the privilege of standing with someone you love. The world has enough fair weather friends. God is looking for covenant people.
Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You for the faithful people You have placed in my life. Open my eyes to recognize and appreciate them before I take them for granted. Make me a dependable, trustworthy, and loyal person who reflects the heart of Christ in every relationship. May others find encouragement, strength, and consistency through my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
