I’m Chosen

1 Peter 2:9 AMP

But you are a chosen race , a royal priesthood , a consecrated nation , a [special] people for  God’s  own possession , so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

When I told someone that it was not on the basis of your faith that God chose you but a result of it, He got shocked. We believe it was when we got saved by believing the sacrificial work of Christ that we got chosen by God, but not so. Our roots, as a child of God, are in eternity — in the infinite mind and heart of God.

The basis of God choosing us is not found in us or in our belief in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection but in grace. Our faith is a result of God choosing us and loving us. Moses wrote it this way to the nation of Israel; “The Lord your God has CHOSEN YOU to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. IT WAS NOT BECAUSE YOU WERE MORE IN NUMBER THAN ANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT THE LORD SET HIS LOVE ON YOU AND CHOSE YOU, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers. (Deuteronomy 7:6–8).

Isn’t that amazing? God chose and loves us, why, because He loves us. Now, this is where our faith in the sacrificial work of Christ comes in. Since we believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, we Know we are God’s chosen ones. The unbelievers may not see this because the only way to see it is by faith in Christ finished works.

So, this is to reassure you that you are not some fluke of nature, you are chosen by God and like Peter says, But you are a chosen race , a royal priesthood , a consecrated nation , a [special] people for  God’s  own possession , so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
