How Do I do It?
Colossians 3:17
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
“I really wanted to attend Church, I wanted to do Bible Study, I want to get all of these done. It isn’t that I don’t do them, it is just that my nature of work and classes makes it look like I’m not doing anything.”
These are little of the laments many of us make when it seems as though we are getting busy to do spiritual things. First, for you to have the desire to partake of spiritual things shows how you value your spiritual well-being more than anything. Now, the reason why it looks like you aren’t doing anything is because you are more focused on what you are doing than ‘how you are doing it.”
Paul, reminded the Colossians that they were to live in a way that glorified God. Apparently what they specifically did on a day-to-day basis was not as important as how they did it. They are to do there work with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, to be forgiving, and above all to love and to do their work in the name of the Lord (Vs. 12-14). In other words, their work wasn’t to be separated from their Christlike living.
Know this, what we do matter, but how we do it, why we do it and who we do it to matters more. We can choose to work stressed out each day or work the way that honours God and seek out the meaning Jesus adds to our work. We find satisfaction and rest when we do the latter.
