Why Are You Seeking Him?

Devotional Reading: “And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.”- Matthew 2:8 KJV

Africa is known among other continent of the world to be religious and Nigeria seems to be taking the lead. There are countless religious leaders, both living and dead that are known almost all over the world coming from Nigeria. With all of that credentials as a nation, one may imagine Nigeria to be a city set on a hill that should not be hidden, but reverse is the case. The singular reason for that is, being religious is not the same as knowing Christ and also, many who know him have different reasons for seeking him.

Herod in our opening text also sought Christ, went through a lot; called together all priests and scribes, met with the astrologers so he could locate where Christ was born. All of that he did so he could kill the baby Jesus.

This is the case of many also, they seek the Lord but with personal and selfish motives other than for worship and service to God. They see serving God as a means to an end and once it’s achieved, they stopped following him. A germane question we should always ask is, “why am I seeking God?” Could it be for fame, money, connection in the house of God among many others?

Prayer and Confession
I reference and seek to know the Lord my God. My service unto him is not because of what I will get from him, but because it is my duty to worship and reference him.
