Seek To Promote Growth And Love

Devotional Reading: ‭‭All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV‬‬

As believers, we often hear that we’re living under grace, not law. And that’s true! But sometimes we can take that to mean we can do whatever we want, whenever we want. But Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:23 that just because we can do something, doesn’t mean we should.

Think of it like a parent and child. Just because a child can eat all the candy they want, doesn’t mean it’s good for them. In fact, it can be harmful! As believers, we need to consider how our actions will affect others. Will they promote growth and spiritual advancement, or will they cause harm?

For example, maybe we have the freedom to watch any movie we want, but if it’s filled with explicit content, is it really worth it? Or maybe we have the freedom to speak our minds on social media, but if our words are hurtful or divisive, are they really promoting growth in others?

Paul is reminding us that our freedom in Christ is not just about what we can do, but about how we can use our freedom to serve and love others. It’s like the difference between a child who only thinks of themselves, and a child who considers how their actions will affect their family.

As we live free because of what Christ has done, let’s learn to use our freedom wisely. And always learn to consider how our actions will affect others, and how it will promote growth, love, and spiritual advancement in those around us.
