When Opinions Become Idols

Devotional Reading: “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” – Romans 3:4

Opinions are everywhere. Family members have them, friends have them, even strangers on social media feel entitled to share them. The problem is not opinions themselves but when we begin to treat them as final authority. Many believers unknowingly bow to people’s opinions as though they were idols, letting them shape their confidence, decisions, and identity more than God’s Word does.

Jesus had to deal with people’s opinions. Some called Him a prophet, some said He was a deceiver, others thought He was just Joseph’s son. Imagine if He had allowed their voices to shape His self-image. He would have doubted His mission. Instead, He constantly returned to His Father’s Word concerning Him. That’s why He could boldly say, “I am the bread of life,” even when some thought He was mad. Faith is about believing God’s opinion above every other.

The significance of this truth is huge. When you allow human opinions to define you, you’ll live in constant confusion. Today people praise you, tomorrow they criticize you. If your confidence rises and falls with their words, your destiny will be trapped. But when God’s Word defines you, your sense of worth becomes unshakable. What God says about you is eternal, while people’s opinions change with their mood and agenda.

So ask yourself, whose opinion is the loudest in your life? If it’s the voice of man, then you are building on sand. But if it’s the voice of God’s Word, you are building on the Rock that cannot be shaken.

Prayer and Confession
Lord, I silence every opinion that contradicts Your Word over my life. I choose to believe what You say about me above every voice around me. Amen!
