Then, Living by Sight, Now, Living by Faith

Key Text: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Before Christ, mankind was limited to what could be seen, felt, measured, and understood naturally. Decisions were largely based on circumstances, emotions, and visible evidence. But the New Creation has been introduced to a higher way of living called faith. Faith is not pretending problems do not exist; it is choosing to trust what God has said above what circumstances may be saying.

One of the funniest things about human nature is how quickly we can become experts at predicting disaster. A small headache suddenly becomes ten different illnesses after a few internet searches. A delayed phone call becomes a full movie script in our minds. Faith does the opposite. Instead of magnifying the problem, it magnifies God’s promise. It sees beyond the present situation and agrees with what God has spoken, even when visible evidence has not yet caught up.

Living by faith affects everyday life. It means trusting God when finances seem tight, believing His promises when progress appears slow, and standing on His Word when feelings fluctuate. Faith does not deny reality; it introduces a greater reality. The believer learns that God’s Word is more stable than circumstances and more dependable than emotions. Sight reports what is happening now, but faith lays hold of what God has already made available in Christ.

Prayer and Confession
Father, I thank You for the gift of faith. I declare that I walk by Your Word and not merely by what I see or feel. My confidence is in Your promises, Your character, and Your faithfulness. I choose to trust You in every situation and to live from the reality of Your truth. Amen.
