1 Thessalonians 5:4 (NLT)

But you arent in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you wont be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.

Jesus, while speaking with his disciples about the day of the Lord; he likened it to be as the coming of a thief into the house, in which the master of the house isn’t prepared (Matt 24:42-44, Luk 12:39-40). It’s of great importance to note the key word he used in both passages i.e “be ready”. That suggest, even though you can’t tell when, but you can be prepared and ready to face it.

Its stated clearly that no one knows the exact day the Lord will return. However, as Christians, the day of the Lord shouldn’t and wouldn’t be a surprise to us (isn’t this what we are eagerly waiting for?). Have you met anyone who isn’t sure of his eternal salvation, then you have met a fellow whom the day of the Lord will be a surprise to.

Verse 6 of our opening scripture says, “So be on your guard,” not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. How then can you be on guard? Verse 8 says But let us who live in the light being clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
