Knowing God’s Will
Proverbs 3:6
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
At some point in our life, we have probably faced a major decision and wondered how to know which option to choose. If you have a relationship with God, you also probably hoped you were doing what God wanted you to do.
Some aspects of God’s will are very clearly spelled out in the Bible. Instructions are clear about giving thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18), avoiding sexual immorality (1 Thessalonians 4:3) and doing good (1 Peter 2:15) for example. But other things, like knowing the right time to get married or whom to marry, choosing the right job offer, what kind of school you should go, are not covered in the Bible.
So what do we do, knowing all of this life choices aren’t clear in the Bible? Focus on that will of God that is obvious in the scriptures and trust him to guide your parts on that which is not obvious. The writer of proverbs gave us a clue, he said “in all your ways acknowledge him” –The transliteration of the Hebrew verb for acknowledge is “yada’.” It means to know, to perceive, to distinguish, to recognize, to confess, to be acquainted with, to be wise about. It is recognizing the rights, authority, or status of someone or something.
In other words, to acknowledge means to admit the existence, reality, and trustworthiness of God. To acknowledge Him as Lord over our world and to give Him full access to sit on the throne of our hearts, only then He will begin to establish our steps and lead us where He needs us..
