Keeping in Step with the Spirit 2

Written by Tosin Lawal

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

We started a series on walking in the spirit yesterday. Today, we shall be looking at Love which is one of the product of the fruit of the spirit. Walking in the spirit is simply exhibiting(or walking in) the fruit of the spirit. Every believer has the fruit of the spirit. The only difference is that our yielding to the workings of the spirit in us differs. Love is of God. Infact, the word of God says God is love. Romans 5:5b(KJV) corrobates the true saying that we as believers possess the fruit of the spirit. It says …the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. To shed abroad in our hearts means that the love of God has been poured out , distributed largely and bestowed unto us through the Holy Spirit that we received the day we received Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and saviour.

Dearly beloved, the implication of this is that you actually have an inborn ability and capacity to love the way God loves. You see, love is the nature of God and that nature has been freely given to you the day you received Jesus. If you will yield yourself and agree in your mind with this reality of God’s love being fully in you, then you will begin to walk in love without strings attached to fellow human beings on earth and you will bring much praise to God.

Dearly beloved, we have an encouragement from the father to walk in love. He is the first lover. While we were yet without strength, the word of God says Christ died for the ungodly. The word of God says in Isaiah 53:6NLT that “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him (Jesus) the sins of us all.” See the greatest display of love dear. And the truth is He can never love us less. Beloved, let this motivate you to walk in love for you have the capacity. You can never love too much.

CONFESSION

The love of God has been shed abroad in my heart through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Now I can love the way God loves. I love unconditionally, without any strings attached. Amen.
