Keeping in Step with the Spirit

Written by Tosin Lawal

Galatians 5:25 NIV

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

According to our text today, Keeping in step with the spirit means aligning your thoughts with the spirit. It also means letting the spirit take the lead in your mind which will in turn affect the way you live your life daily. Something that should catch your attention in today’s text is that the responsibility of keeping in step with the spirit is yours and not God. As long as we live in this world, we are required to keep in steps with the spirit because it is by it we live.

You see, there is a miracle God has wrought in you the day you received Jesus Christ as your Lard and saviour. It is the greatest miracle of all time that God has ever done. The word of God made it clear to us in 1John 5:1a(NIV) that “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God.” And we know that God is a spirit. More so, Jesus affirms that Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit  gives birth to spirit.  You were actually indwelt by the spirit of God the day you agreed in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Lord and saviour. You’ve been born of the spirit of Jehovah. You are now alive unto God. Your being alive, is actually by reason of the spirit of God. Hence you can say that you live by the spirit for without the spirit you can’t be alive.

Galatians 5:22-23NIV which is the pretext of our text today reveals clearly the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The fruit of the spirit is actually God(Christ) at work in you. It is the workings of the Holy Spirit in you. You can either choose to express Christ in you  So you have the responsibility of allowing God manifest himself through you as you live among fellow men here on earth.

You can do so because you have been indwelt by the spirit of God.  This is the reason why the Holy Spirit through the mouth of Apostle Paul commanded us to keep in steps with the spirit, thus living out the life of Christ in you.

CONFESSION:

I have been born of the Spirit of God, I live by the spirit and so I will daily keep in steps with the spirit for in so doing, I live out the life of Christ in me.
