The Gracious Gift of God

Devotional Reading: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8 ESV

Salvation is a free gift we may receive by placing our faith in Jesus Christ alone (John 1:12). Emancipation from death to life eternal is always the result of this free gift.

In the book of Romans, Paul said believers are “justified freely by His grace” (3:24). Similarly, in Ephesians 2:8–9, he wrote, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast”.

It is not enough to believe that Jesus existed; it is necessary to believe he died for our sins. Faith is the acceptance of the free gift of eternal life offered to us by God through faith in Christ. There is nothing we do to earn this gift; it is the gracious gift of God. Paul proclaims this in Romans 4:4–5 where he declares the binary options: it is either of grace or works. There is no middle ground.

Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

Prayer and Confession
I believe in the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ and I receive all the privileges that comes with it. Amen
