The 23rd Psalm (5)

Devotional Reading: ‭‭Psalm 23:6 ESV‬‬
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

“Surely, God’s goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” This verse is a powerful reminder that God’s goodness and mercy are not just occasional visitors in our lives, but constant companions. They follow us everywhere, always available, always present. But have you ever noticed that the verse doesn’t say “God’s goodness and mercy will precede me”? Instead, it says “follow me”. This means that God’s goodness and mercy are not just preparing the way ahead, but also cleaning up the mess behind us.

Think about it – how many times have we stumbled, fallen, or made mistakes? Yet, God’s mercy is always there to pick us up, dust us off, and set us back on our feet. And how many times have we experienced God’s goodness in unexpected ways, even in the midst of challenges? This verse reminds us that God’s goodness and mercy are not just future promises, but present realities. They are following us, surrounding us, and enveloping us every step of the way.

So today, take comfort in the knowledge that God’s goodness and mercy are following you. Don’t be afraid to look back and see the messes you’ve made – God’s mercy is already there, cleaning it up. And don’t be anxious about the future – God’s goodness is already ahead, preparing the way. You are surrounded, always.

Prayer and Confession
Thank you Jesus for your abundant goodness and mercy. I declare, surely God’s goodness and mercy are following me all the days of my life and I am aware of these realities always. Amen.
