The Power of Small Acts

Devotional Reading: His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. John 2:5, 7-8 NKJV

Reading again into the first miracle Jesus performed, the servants at the wedding didn’t perform a grand gesture; they simply filled jars with water. Their small act of obedience became the conduit for Jesus’ first recorded miracle. This shows that God often uses the mundane to manifest the miraculous. It’s not always about what we do but about how faithfully we obey Him in the little things.

For instance Peter who was instructed by Jesus to cast his net into the deep after a night of unsuccessful fishing. Though Peter initially doubted, he obeyed, and the result was an overwhelming catch of fish. Like Peter, we may feel disheartened when our efforts seem fruitless, but God often asks us to try again under His direction.

In our everyday lives, these small acts of obedience could be as simple as giving, making time for prayer, or helping a neighbor in need. For instance, imagine God prompting you to give your last N1000 to someone struggling. Though it might seem insignificant, your act of faith could be the answer to their prayer and a step toward unlocking provision in your life.

So ask yourself, are you dismissing small acts of obedience as insignificant? Remember, God sees your faithfulness and uses even the smallest actions to bring about His purposes.

Prayer and Confession
I confess that every small step of obedience I take is significant in God’s eyes. I will not underestimate the power of the little things He asks me to do. I believe that as I remain faithful in the ordinary, God will bring about the extraordinary. My acts of obedience are seeds for His miracles, and I trust Him to use them for His glory.
