Trusting Beyond Logic

Devotional Reading: His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. John 2:5, 7-8 NKJV

From our opening text, when Mary told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you,” she demonstrated unwavering trust in Jesus’ authority and ability to act, even in an unusual situation. The miracle at the wedding in Cana didn’t start with water turning into wine but with simple obedience. The servants were asked to fill jars with water, a task that likely made little sense to them in the context of the wine shortage. Yet, their willingness to obey paved the way for the miraculous.

In our lives, obedience often requires trusting God beyond our understanding. Think of Noah, who was commanded to build an ark when there was no sign of rain. His faith and obedience to God’s instructions saved his family and preserved humanity. Similarly, when God asks us to act in ways that seem illogical—like forgiving someone who hurt us deeply or stepping into a calling that feels beyond our ability—our obedience positions us for His intervention.

An example of this could be forgiving someone who wronged you. It may feel unfair or unwise, but choosing to obey God’s command to forgive can open doors for restoration and peace. God doesn’t ask for blind faith; He asks for trust in His wisdom, which far exceeds ours.

Are there areas in your life where obedience seems hard because it defies logic? Surrender them to God, trusting that God’s instructions, though seemingly small, can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

Prayer and Confession
I declare that I trust God beyond my understanding. His ways are higher, and His wisdom is perfect. I choose to obey His voice, even when it doesn’t make sense to me, because I know He is working for my good. By faith, I release my doubts and step into His plan, believing that my obedience will lead to His miraculous power in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
