Obedience Activates The Miraculous
Devotional Reading: His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. John 2:5, 7-8 NKJV
Examining further the first miracle of Jesus in John 2, we see that when the servants obeyed Jesus’ command to draw water and take it to the master of the banquet, the miracle unfolded. The water didn’t turn into wine until they acted in faith. This teaches us that obedience is often the bridge between our need and God’s provision.
A similar example can be found in the story of the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19). Jesus told them to show themselves to the priests, even though they were still leprous. As they went, they were healed. Their healing was activated by their obedience to His command. Likewise, God may ask us to take a step of faith before we see His promise fulfilled.
Imagine you’re seeking a new job, and you sense God prompting you to apply for a position that seems beyond your qualifications. Acting in obedience, even when the odds seem stacked against you, demonstrates faith. As you follow His lead, you might find doors opening in unexpected ways, just as the servants witnessed water transformed into the finest wine.
What step of obedience is God asking you to take right now? Trust that as you act, He will meet you with His power and provision, turning the ordinary into extraordinary.
Prayer and Confession
I declare that my obedience activates God’s miraculous power in my life. I will take every step of faith He calls me to, trusting that He will fulfill His promises. I refuse to let fear or doubt hold me back. I believe that as I obey, God is turning my “water” into “wine,” transforming my circumstances for His glory. In Jesus’ name, amen
