Obedience in Small Things

Devotional Reading: “But Simon answered and said to Him, ‘Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.’” – Luke 5:5 (NKJV)

Many of us expect God to shout before we move. But sometimes, the Holy Ghost gives instructions that look too ordinary to be divine. In 2 Kings 5, Naaman almost missed his healing because the instruction to dip in the Jordan River seemed too simple. It took humility and obedience to see the breakthrough.

This is how God works, small steps that lead to big victories. The Holy Ghost might ask you to sow a seed, apologize to someone, apply for a job, or even take a break and rest. It may seem unrelated to the miracle you’re expecting, but that’s where faith and trust come in. Obeying simple instructions is often the gateway to massive transformation.

Think about Peter in Luke 5. Jesus told him to launch out into the deep and let down his nets. Peter had fished all night and caught nothing, but he said, “Nevertheless, at Your word…” That act of obedience led to a net-breaking catch. What if Peter had argued or ignored Jesus’ word because it didn’t make sense logically?

In our everyday lives, God gives us these pivotal moments—when our choice to obey or ignore determines whether we step into breakthrough or delay it. It’s not always about dramatic acts; sometimes it’s about showing up, being faithful, and trusting the Holy Ghost when it feels inconvenient or odd.

So, ask the Lord to help you obey even the instructions that seem insignificant. Ask yourself, “What did the Holy Spirit prompt me to do lately that I’ve postponed?” Don’t delay. Breakthroughs are often wrapped in obedience to small, seemingly unimportant instructions.

Prayer and Confession
Lord, help me to trust and obey You even when I don’t understand. Teach me to value the little instructions and obey with joy. Let no pride or fear hinder my response to Your leading.
