Lessons From Elijah: God Provides in Unlikely Places
Devotional Reading: “The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.” – 1 Kings 17:6
One of the wildest parts of Elijah’s story is when God sent him to the brook Cherith and commanded ravens to feed him. Now, ravens are known as selfish, greedy birds. They don’t even feed their own young properly, yet here they were delivering bread and meat twice a day. When God decides to provide for you, He is not limited by natural laws, human logic, or economic conditions. He can use the most unlikely channels to supply your needs.
Elijah could have complained, “God, why would You send me food through birds? Couldn’t You use an angel instead?” But he trusted God’s strange method. Many of us miss God’s provision because we are too picky about how it comes. Maybe God wants to bless you through a job you feel is “too small,” or through a person you don’t even like talking to. Provision sometimes comes dressed in unlikely packaging. Don’t despise the package, check the Sender.
In real life, this might look like someone praying for breakthrough and instead of a huge miracle suddenly falling from the sky, God gives them wisdom to turn a little skill, like cooking, sewing, or repairing things into an income stream. Or maybe a relative you hardly talk to suddenly becomes the one God uses to open a door for you. Elijah’s brook season shows us that God is more creative than we give Him credit for.
Prayer and Confession
Father, thank You because You are my source and my provider. I refuse to limit You by my own expectations. Even if my brook looks small, I trust that You will make a way for me. Amen!
