Lessons From Elijah: Bold Faith Commands Fire
Devotional Reading: “Then Elijah said to the people, ‘Come here to me.’ They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down.” – 1 Kings 18:30
In 1 Kings 18, we saw the battle of the gods. Mount Carmel wasn’t a quiet prayer meeting, it was a full-on showdown between the power of God and the pride of Baal. Elijah stood before hundreds of prophets, a confused nation, and a silent heaven. Yet his confidence didn’t shake. Why? Because faith knows who it’s standing with. Before the fire fell, Elijah repaired the altar, he fixed what was broken in Israel’s worship. The principle is clear: before fire can fall publicly, the altar must be repaired privately.
Many people want the fire of power but not the discipline of prayer. Elijah didn’t just shout “fire!” and hope for sparks. No, he prepared the ground. He poured water on the sacrifice to make it clear that this was no magic trick. When your faith is genuine, you’re not afraid of “extra water.” You can boldly step into impossible odds because you know who sent you. True faith doesn’t get scared when the situation gets tougher; it gets excited, knowing that God’s glory will look even greater when He answers.
In our daily lives, spiritual alignment is what attracts divine fire. When your heart, actions, and motives are aligned with God, heaven responds naturally. Alignment means walking in obedience, staying humble, and allowing God to be the center of your pursuits. Elijah didn’t need to shout louder than Baal’s prophets; he just needed to be rightly aligned with God’s purpose, and the fire came.
Prayer and Confession
Lord, I declare that I am aligned, available, and anointed. The fire of God will rest on my life and make me a living proof of His power. Amen!
