Whe God’s Word Sounds Too Good to Be True
Key Text: “But the officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, ‘If the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?’” 2 Kings 7:2
Let’s rewind a little. Not everyone receives good news with faith. When Elisha declared that abundance was coming within twenty four hours, one of the king’s officers responded with sarcasm. In simple terms he said, “Even if heaven opened supermarkets in the sky, this cannot happen.” He heard the word, but he could not accept it because it sounded unrealistic. His problem was not intelligence. It was unbelief dressed up as logic.
Many times God’s promises stretch beyond what our minds consider reasonable. We are comfortable believing God for small things, but when He speaks about sudden change, restoration, or unexpected provision, we begin to calculate instead of trust. We look at our situation and say, “This cannot happen.” But faith does not grow by agreeing with circumstances. Faith grows by agreeing with God even when the situation looks unchanged.
This officer teaches us a sobering lesson. You can stand close to spiritual things and still miss them if your heart is cynical. He was near the king. He heard the prophet directly. Yet he allowed doubt to override revelation. It is possible to hear God’s word regularly and still treat it as exaggeration. As believers, we must guard our hearts from becoming too familiar, too analytical, or too hardened to believe that God can do exactly what He says. What sounds impossible to you may already be settled in heaven.
Prayers and Confession
Father, remove every trace of doubt and cynicism from my heart. Help me to believe Your word even when it stretches my understanding. I choose faith over logic and trust over fear. I declare that nothing is too hard for You. Amen.
